Newly invited Super Eagles forward Philip Otele opened his goal account in the Bundesliga on Saturday, but it was not enough to prevent Hamburger SV from slipping to a 3-2 defeat against Borussia Dortmund.

Otele, who joined Hamburg in January from FC Basel, gave his side the lead in the 34th minute with a composed finish, marking his first goal in Germany’s top flight.

Hamburg appeared to be in control after racing into a two-goal advantage, but Dortmund mounted a strong comeback, scoring three times to snatch victory by the final whistle.

The Nigerian forward’s performance will nonetheless be a positive takeaway, as he continues to settle into life in the Bundesliga following his mid-season switch.

Otele is among the new players recently invited to the Super Eagles squad ahead of the upcoming mini tournament in Turkey, where he will be aiming to build on his growing reputation at club level.
