Rising Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has officially taken over the club’s legendary number 10 shirt, previously worn by Lionel Messi, the greatest player in the club’s history.
Speaking at a special event held at the Spotify Camp Nou store on Wednesday, Yamal acknowledged the weight of the shirt but expressed confidence in forging his own legacy.
“Messi made his path and I will make mine,” the 18-year-old said. “I’ll give everything, work as hard as I can, and try to bring joy to all the Barça fans whether in the stadium or watching from home.”
A product of the famed La Masia academy like Messi, Yamal played a pivotal role in Barcelona’s domestic treble last season. In May, he extended his contract with the club until 2031, becoming one of the highest-paid players in the squad.
