World Cup-bound Portugal secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Nigeria’s Super Eagles in an international friendly match played on Wednesday in Leiria.
The hosts took the lead midway through the first half after capitalising on their early dominance.
However, Nigeria responded positively and restored parity in the 33rd minute through forward Akor Adams, who finished clinically to bring the Super Eagles level before the break.
The second half saw Nigeria put up a resilient display, with goalkeeper Maduka Okoye producing a series of impressive saves to keep the Portuguese attack at bay.
Despite the Super Eagles’ determined efforts, Portugal eventually found the decisive goal late in the game to seal a narrow 2-1 win.
The defeat means Nigeria ended their May/June international friendly schedule with one loss in four matches, having shown encouraging performances throughout the series of games as preparations continue for upcoming competitive fixtures.
