The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has revealed that it is closely monitoring developments in Nigeria ahead of the forthcoming Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) election.

A FIFA official confirmed that the world football governing body is keeping track of the situation in the country as preparations for the NFF leadership election continue.

“We are monitoring the situation [in Nigeria], with elections coming soon,” the official told UK-based Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana.

The statement comes amid growing concerns surrounding the direction of Nigerian football under the leadership of current NFF President Ibrahim Gusau.

Gusau has faced mounting pressure from some stakeholders calling for his resignation, with critics pointing to what they described as underwhelming performances by the country’s national teams during his tenure.

The upcoming NFF election is expected to attract significant attention as football stakeholders look to determine the next leadership direction for Nigerian football.

FIFA’s decision to monitor events highlights the importance of ensuring that the electoral process aligns with the principles of transparency, fairness, and good governance in football administration.
