Mamelodi Sundowns’ Brazilian forward, Lucas Ribeiro, has claimed the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup Goal of the Tournament award, outshining global stars like Lionel Messi and Jamal Musiala.

The tournament, hosted in the United States, saw Ribeiro produce a moment of brilliance during Sundowns’ thrilling group stage clash against Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.

Despite the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions falling short in a 4–3 defeat, Ribeiro’s stunning solo goal stole the spotlight. He won possession deep in his own half before embarking on a dazzling 67-yard run, weaving through Dortmund’s defence and calmly finishing past goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

The breathtaking goal quickly went viral, drawing widespread praise and earning 40,000 fan votes  enough to beat strikes from both Messi and Musiala for the prestigious accolade.

Ribeiro, who joined Sundowns in July 2023 on a contract running through June 2028, has become a cornerstone of Miguel Cardoso’s squad. His standout showing at the tournament, which was eventually won by Chelsea, has reportedly sparked serious interest from French outfit AS Saint-Étienne.
