The National Sports Commission (NSC), led by Shehu Dikko, has appointed Yusuf Ali as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the newly established Elite Athletes Development Board, according to BSNSports.com.ng.
The 13-member committee also includes Prof. Ken Anugweje as an Adviser and Member, with Dr. Emmanuel Igbinosa, Salihu Abubakar, Aku Aghazu, Tunde Adelakun, and Prof. Sadiq Abdulahi also serving as members. Notable former Olympian Mary Onyali, Hauwa Kulu Akinyemi, Sunday Odebode, and Olalekan Alabi have been appointed as members, with Bamiduro Olumide named Secretary.
A statement released on Tuesday afternoon highlighted that the committee members were selected based on their expertise and extensive experience to help Nigeria achieve sustainable success at international competitions through a scientifically-driven reward system.
“This initiative is part of the Commission’s efforts under the leadership of Mallam Shehu Dikko to professionally manage athletes’ welfare and training grants,” the statement read. “Our goal is to establish a sustainable system that empowers athletes poised to represent Nigeria on the international podium. This is just one of many initiatives under the Renewed Hope Initiative aimed at boosting the Nigerian sports economy.”
