Athletic Club produced a dominant second-half performance to hand Atlético Madrid their first defeat of the 2026/27 La Liga season.

Atlético were the better side in a goalless first half, hitting the woodwork twice (Lee Kang-in and Pablo Barrios). The game flipped immediately after the restart: Nico Williams headed home in the 46th minute (from a deflected effort involving brother Iñaki), and Robert Navarro made it 2-0 just two minutes later with a composed finish after cutting inside. Oihan Sancet sealed the result in the 90th minute.

Diego Simeone’s side offered little response despite introducing Julián Álvarez. Athletic, under Edin Terzic, secured consecutive wins after a slow start to the campaign and looked sharp in transition and clinical in front of goal.

Rayo Vallecano 3-2 Racing Santander

Headline: Camello Brace Hands Rayo First Win of the Season in Five-Goal Thriller

Sergio Camello was the hero as Rayo Vallecano came from behind twice to claim their first victory of the season at Estadio Butarque.

Racing took an early lead through Sergio Canales (free-kick, 4th minute) and restored their advantage via Pablo García (28th). Andrei Rațiu equalised for Rayo in the 17th minute, before Camello struck twice in quick succession  once just before half-time (43rd) and again early in the second half (47th)  to complete the turnaround.

Rayo finished with 10 men after two late red cards (Fran Pérez and Jorge de Frutos) but held on for a hard-fought three points. Camello’s display (two goals + involvement in the first equaliser) was decisive in a high-energy, end-to-end contest.

Summary of the day: Athletic delivered the standout result with a statement home win, while Rayo finally got off the mark in entertaining fashion. The late kick-off at La Cerámica was still in progress.
