South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has warned the country against appointing Pitso Mosimane as the next Bafana Bafana manager, claiming it could take the national team “five years back.”

Speaking to Nieuwsblad, Broos said Mosimane remains a successful South African coach but suggested that his return could lead to external influences from club owners and agents in the selection of the national team squad.

“You know, South Africa still doesn’t have a manager. The candidate is Pitso Mosimane, a successful South African coach,” Broos said.

“However, they know that if he comes, they will go back five years in time. Club owners and agents calling managers to influence the squad.”

Broos, who previously coached South Africa, insisted that he refused to allow such interference during his tenure.

“I kicked them all out. If one called, I said bluntly: ‘I don’t talk with agents,’” he added.
