The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reportedly urged the technical crew of the Super Falcons, led by head coach Justine Madugu, to step down from their respective positions.
Madugu, who guided the Super Falcons during the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), is understood to have been asked to leave alongside his assistants following the team’s disappointing campaign.
The technical crew includes Madugu as head coach, Ann Chiejine as assistant coach and Auwal Makwalla as goalkeeper trainer.
The development comes after Nigeria’s failure to secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, following a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the WAFCON third-place playoff.
Interestingly, the Super Falcons had additional technical support during their successful WAFCON title-winning campaign, with European Video Analyst Igor Krulj and Fitness and Conditioning Coach Par Karlsson, both from Sweden, brought in as ad hoc technical assistants.
The Swedish duo were part of the technical setup when Nigeria produced a stronger performance and won a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
The NFF’s latest move could therefore trigger further discussions over the future direction of the Super Falcons and the composition of the team’s technical structure ahead of upcoming international competitions.
The federation is expected to make further decisions on the coaching situation as it begins preparations for the next phase of the Super Falcons’ programme.
