Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has called on Nigerians to throw their weight behind the team ahead of their crucial World Cup playoff clash against South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.
The Super Falcons face a decisive encounter with the South Africans with a place at the World Cup at stake, making the fixture a must-win for Nigeria.
Oshoala acknowledged the disappointment surrounding the team’s recent setback but urged supporters to remain behind the players as they prepare for the crucial encounter.
“The only thing I can say right now is we need their support. The World Cup ticket is at stake, so this is the time when we really need everyone to support the team,” Oshoala was quoted by ESPN.
The Barcelona forward also referenced the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the World Cup, stressing the importance of the Super Falcons securing Nigeria’s representation at the global tournament.
“We already know the Super Eagles didn’t qualify, so we know what is at stake and we know how Nigerians feel about this. We are sorry we lost this one, but the next game we will put in more effort and try to win the game.”
The Super Falcons will be hoping to deliver when they take on Banyana Banyana in the decisive playoff, with qualification for the World Cup providing the ultimate prize.
