World football governing body FIFA has dismissed speculation surrounding the venue for the 2030 FIFA World Cup final, insisting that no decision has been made on where the tournament’s showpiece match will be played.
The clarification follows reports claiming that FIFA President Gianni Infantino had already committed the final to a particular host nation.
In a statement, FIFA rejected the reports, stressing that no venue has been selected for the 2030 World Cup final.
The governing body maintained that the process for determining the host venue for the final is yet to take place, adding that a decision will be made at a later date in accordance with its established procedures.
The 2030 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, with the opening commemorative matches set to be staged in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay as part of the tournament’s centenary celebrations.
