Nigeria’s Ruth Asuquo Nyong secured a silver medal in the women’s 48kg weightlifting event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after an impressive total lift of 168kg.
Nyong delivered a strong performance throughout the competition to finish second on the podium, adding another medal to Team Nigeria’s tally at the Games.
India’s Mirabai Chanu Saikhom claimed the gold medal with a commanding total lift of 190kg, while Malaysia’s Irene Jane Henry settled for bronze after recording a total of 167kg.
Nyong’s silver medal continues Nigeria’s encouraging run in the weightlifting events, highlighting the country’s strength in the sport on the Commonwealth stage.
