Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) gathered momentum on Sunday as 19 of the 25 invited Super Falcons players have now arrived in camp ahead of their opening Group C fixture against Malawi on Tuesday, July 28.
Head coach Justine Madugu supervised a training session at La Noria Club with 15 players as the team continued fine-tuning preparations for the continental tournament.
The camp also received a major boost with the arrivals of experienced midfielder Halimatu Ayinde and defender Osinachi Ohale, while forward Chinwendu Ihezuo also linked up with the squad. Joy Omewa is also expected to complete her arrival as preparations intensify.
The players currently in camp include goalkeepers Chiamaka Nnadozie, Comfort Erhabor and Fatima Oloko.
Defenders in camp are Osinachi Ohale, Shukurat Oladipo, Rofiat Imuran, Glory Ogbonna, Oluwatosin Demehin, Sikiratu Isah and Christy Ucheibe.
The midfield department features captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Halimatu Ayinde, Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini, while the forwards are Asisat Oshoala, Joy Omewa, Francisca Ordega, Omorinsola Babajide and Chinwendu Ihezuo.
Meanwhile, six players are still expected to join the squad. They are defender Michelle Alozie, midfielder Deborah Abiodun, and forwards Gift Monday, Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi and Uchenna Kanu.
The Super Falcons will begin their quest for another WAFCON title when they face Malawi in their tournament opener on July 28.
