French champions Paris Saint-Germain successfully defended their UEFA Champions League title after defeating Arsenal 4-3 on penalties in a thrilling final at the Puskás Arena in Budapest.

The Premier League champions made a bright start to the encounter and took the lead as early as the sixth minute through German forward Kai Havertz, who finished clinically to give Arsenal the advantage.

PSG responded strongly and eventually found the equaliser in the 65th minute when they converted from the penalty spot to bring the score level at 1-1.

With neither side able to find a winning goal during regulation time or the extra 30 minutes, the final was decided by a penalty shootout.

The Parisians held their nerve from 12 yards, converting four of their spot-kicks to secure a 4-3 victory. Arsenal’s hopes were dashed after Eberechi Eze and Gabriel failed to convert their penalties.

The victory sees PSG retain the Champions League trophy and further cement their status among Europe’s elite clubs, while Arsenal were left to rue missed opportunities after a spirited performance in the final.
