Botswana sprint star Letsile Tebogo has criticised the organisers of the 2026 African Athletics Championship in Accra, Ghana, over what he described as poor organisation at the competition.

The Olympic champion, who is representing Botswana at the championship, expressed frustration with the level of preparedness and the treatment of athletes during the event.

According to Tebogo, athletes were forced to wait for a long period after completing their warm-up sessions before being allowed to compete.

“There is a lot of disorganised stuff. Imagine athletes having to wait for almost an hour after warm-up before coming out to run,” Tebogo said.

The Botswana star further hinted that he may boycott the final of the competition if conditions do not improve.

“I will compete in the semifinal, but I doubt if I will run in the final if the organisation does not improve,” he added.

The 2026 African Athletics Championship is currently taking place in Accra, with several top athletes from across the continent participating in the competition.
