Malian midfielder Mamadou Sangaré has been named the winner of the 2026 Prix Marc-Vivien Foé award, recognising him as the best African player in the French Ligue 1.

The 23-year-old RC Lens star etched his name into history by becoming the first player from Mali to win the prestigious honour since the award was established in 2009.

The Prix Marc-Vivien Foé award was created in memory of former Cameroon international Marc-Vivien Foé, who tragically died in June 2003 after collapsing during a Confederations Cup match.

Sangaré’s impressive performances for RC Lens throughout the 2025/2026 Ligue 1 campaign earned him widespread recognition, with the midfielder playing a key role for the French side during the season.
