Organisers of the 2026 World Athletics Relays 2026 have officially unveiled the medals to be awarded at the global event scheduled for May 2–3 in Gaborone.
The medals, uniquely crafted to reflect the host nation’s heritage, feature natural diamonds sourced from Botswana, symbolising the country’s celebration of 60 years of independence.
At the centre of each medal are 120 Botswana-sourced natural diamonds, carefully embedded to highlight the nation’s global reputation as a leading diamond producer.
The design also incorporates iconic national elements, including the Mohembo Bridge, alongside patterns inspired by elephant tusks and zebra stripes both widely recognised symbols of Botswana’s rich wildlife and cultural identity.
The unveiling marks a significant step in the countdown to the championship, with organisers aiming to deliver a visually distinctive and culturally meaningful prize for athletes competing at the prestigious relay event.
