Jamaica moved a step closer to securing a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a narrow 1-0 victory over New Caledonia in the intercontinental play-off semi-final in Mexico on Friday.

The encounter, held at the Estadio Akron, saw the Caribbean side live up to expectations with a composed and disciplined performance.

Despite entering the fixture as favourites, Jamaica were made to work hard by a resilient New Caledonia side determined to cause an upset.

The breakthrough eventually came in the 18th minute when Wrexham forward Bailey Cadamarteri found the back of the net to hand Jamaica the decisive advantage.

The result sends the Reggae Boyz into the final of the play-offs, where they will face DR Congo on March 31 at the same venue for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
