Promising 19-year-old athlete Diana Chinyere Eze has officially switched her international allegiance from South Africa to Nigeria, in a move expected to strengthen the country’s youth athletics prospects.
Eze, who previously competed under the South African banner, has now completed the process to represent Nigeria in global competitions.
This development makes her eligible to feature for the country at the upcoming World Athletics U20 Championships and other international meets.
The switch is seen as a significant boost for Nigeria’s athletics programme, particularly at the junior level, where the nation continues to build a pipeline of talented athletes capable of competing on the global stage.
Her decision underscores a growing trend of athletes with dual eligibility opting to represent Nigeria, as the country intensifies efforts to reclaim its status as a dominant force in African and world athletics.
Officials are optimistic that Eze’s inclusion will add depth and competitiveness to Nigeria’s squad ahead of major international competitions.
