Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the conferment of the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) national honour on him.

Ekong confirmed on Tuesday that he has received the official certificate, a day after the honour was announced, describing the recognition as a proud moment for himself and his family.

“I am honoured and grateful to His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for conferring on me the MFR national honour,” Ekong said.

“I have been sent the official certificate today following the announcement last night. It’s a very proud moment for me and my family to receive this recognition.”

The Al-Kholood defender reflected on his journey with the national team, highlighting the significance of representing Nigeria on the international stage.

“Nigeria gave me my identity, my purpose, and the platform to live my dream through football. Wearing the green and white has always been a great responsibility, privilege, and a promise to give everything for the badge and for our people,” he added.

Ekong also used the opportunity to send goodwill messages to the Super Eagles as they kick off their campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

“As our Super Eagles begin their AFCON journey today, I wish the team every success. As promised, I’ll be supporting them all the way. I believe in this group, our nation and what we can achieve,” he said.

The former Watford defender concluded by reaffirming his national pride, stating that he remains proud to represent Nigeria at all times.
