Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray secured their first win of this season’s UEFA Champions League with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over English giants Liverpool on Tuesday night.
All eyes were on returning Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, and he delivered in style, scoring the decisive goal that sealed the crucial three points for the Istanbul-based club.
The fiercely contested encounter at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium saw both sides create chances, but it was Galatasaray who capitalized when it mattered most.
In the 68th minute, the referee pointed to the spot after a foul in the Liverpool penalty area. Osimhen, showing nerves of steel, stepped up and calmly slotted home from 12 yards to send the home crowd into raptures.
Liverpool pressed for an equalizer with Mohamed Salah and Darwin Núñez going close, but Galatasaray’s defense held firm until the final whistle.
The victory not only reignites Galatasaray’s campaign in the competition but also marks a memorable return for Osimhen, who proved once again why he remains one of the most feared strikers in Europe.
