Nigeria’s table tennis star, Aruna Quadri, endured a disappointing start to his 2026 campaign after suffering an early exit at the WTT Championship in Doha.
Quadri was eliminated in the singles event of the $500,000 tournament, currently taking place at the Lusail Sports Arena in Qatar.
The former African champion faced a tough challenge against China’s Liang Jingkun, the sixth seed, who secured a dominant 3–0 victory in a largely one-sided encounter.
Despite the defeat, Quadri showed flashes of his trademark power and intensity, offering positive signs as he continues to build momentum at the start of the new season.
The Nigerian will now shift focus to the upcoming WTT Star Contender Doha 2026, scheduled to run from January 13 to 18, where he hopes to bounce back and make a deeper run in the competition.
