The preparation of the Super Eagles for Thursday’s crucial World Cup playoff against Gabon suffered a setback on Tuesday as players and officials boycotted training over unpaid allowances and bonuses.
The team, currently camped in Rabat, Morocco, was scheduled to have its second full training session in the evening, but the players refused to take to the pitch, citing unresolved financial issues with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
According to sources within the camp, the players are demanding the settlement of accumulated match bonuses and allowances dating back to previous international fixtures.
Efforts by the technical crew to persuade the squad to resume training reportedly proved futile, as the team insisted that all pending entitlements must be cleared before further activities.
The incident comes just two days before their semi-final playoff clash with the Panthers of Gabon a match crucial to Nigeria’s hopes of securing a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The NFF is expected to intervene swiftly to prevent the crisis from affecting the team’s focus ahead of Thursday’s encounter in Morocco.
