Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have secured a place in the final of the WAFU B U20 Boys Cup after a tense 4-3 penalty shootout win over Niger Republic, following a goalless draw in regulation time.
The Flying Eagles controlled possession for much of the game but struggled to break down a resilient Nigerien defense.
Nigeria’s first real chance came in the 30th minute when Divine Oliseh squandered a golden opportunity after a dazzling solo run from deep within his own half. Earlier in the 24th minute, Niger nearly took the lead following a defensive lapse, but goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt made a vital save to keep Nigeria in the game.
Muhammed Abdullahi also went close in the 33rd minute, but the Nigerien backline held firm under pressure.
The second half mirrored the first, with Nigeria dominating play but failing to find the finishing touch. Despite their attacking pressure, the Flying Eagles were repeatedly denied by Niger’s organized and disciplined defense.
Oliseh had another chance late in the game, but his long-range effort drifted just wide of the post.
With the match deadlocked after 90 minutes, the contest was decided from the penalty spot.
Goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt proved to be the difference-maker, pulling off a crucial save during the shootout to guide Nigeria to a 4-3 victory. His heroics earned him the Player of the Match award, capping off a standout performance and sending the Flying Eagles through to the final.
