Head coach of the Super Falcons, Justin Madugu, has confirmed that the team has commenced preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Although Nigeria still has the second leg of their qualifier to play against Benin Republic, Madugu revealed that his team has already switched focus to the continental showpiece, with long-term plans already in motion.

“For us, the preparation towards the next WAFCON started long before now,” Madugu said. “Everything about the last WAFCON is a closed chapter. We are beginning a new chapter, especially considering the fact that this edition also serves as a qualification pathway to the World Cup.”

The coach emphasized the level of improvement among African teams and the importance of maintaining high standards to stay competitive.

“Everybody has improved now and wants to give a good account of themselves. The ultimate goal each time you prepare for any game is to win, which we did in the first leg, and tomorrow will not be different,” he added.

The Super Falcons will aim to continue their dominance on the continent as they seek qualification and preparation towards lifting their 12th WAFCON title.
