WAFCON 2026: CAF announces draw date

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the date and venue for the draw ceremony of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

According to CAF, the draw will take place on Thursday, January 15, 2026, in Rabat, Morocco’s capital city.

The 2026 edition of the tournament will mark a historic milestone, as 16 teams will participate for the first time, expanding the competition and reflecting the growing development of women’s football across the continent.

Host nation Morocco and defending champions Nigeria headline the list of qualified teams.

They will be joined by Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia.

 

CAF also confirmed that the WAFCON 2026 finals will be staged from March 17 to April 3, 2026, with Morocco hosting the tournament for the second consecutive time.
The expanded format is expected to deliver increased competitiveness and wider representation as Africa’s top women’s national teams battle for continental supremacy.
