Super Falcons defender Oluwatosin Demehin has downplayed the challenge posed by Zambia ahead of their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) quarter-final clash scheduled for Friday in Casablanca.
The 23-year-old Galatasaray centre-back, who has been a key figure in Nigeria’s solid backline, emphasized that the Super Falcons are the standout team in the competition, having maintained a perfect defensive record.
“Zambia is not a tough team in my opinion,” Demehin told Brila FM. “The real tough team is Nigeria. We’ve played three matches and kept three clean sheets. Zambia, on the other hand, conceded about four goals in the same number of games.”
“You can’t call that a big team,” she added. “Yes, they are physical, but I believe we are going to win.”
Demehin, who previously represented Nigeria at the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and was part of the squads for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games, is making her senior WAFCON debut at this year’s tournament.
