Nigeria’s Super Falcons have extended their well wishes to South African midfielder Gabriela Salgado following their 2-1 win over Banyana Banyana in the semi-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Tuesday evening.

Salgado suffered a serious leg injury during the tightly contested clash at Stade Larbi Zaouli, where Rasheedat Ajibade and Mitchelle Alozie scored the goals that secured Nigeria’s place in the final.

In a post on their official X (formerly Twitter) account after the match, the Super Falcons expressed concern for the South African star:
“We wish South Africa’s Gabriela Salgado a swift and full recovery. Health comes first. Strength to you, Gabriela.”

The Nigerian side will now prepare to face host nation Morocco in the final this weekend. Morocco booked their spot after edging out Ghana in a dramatic penalty shootout in the other semi-final.
