Morocco and Zambia have sealed their places in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations following victories on the final day of Group A action Saturday night.

The Atlas Lionesses edged Senegal 1-0 in Rabat, while the Copper Queens also claimed a narrow 1-0 win over DR Congo in Casablanca.

In a tense clash at the Stade Olympique, Morocco broke the deadlock late in the first half through Yasmin M’Rabet, who coolly converted a penalty in the 45th minute. The spot-kick was awarded after VAR confirmed a foul by Senegalese goalkeeper Adji Ndiaye on Ibtissam Jraïdi.

Meanwhile, Zambia, who only needed a draw to progress, went a step further with an early strike from Racheal Kundananji. Her superbly taken direct free-kick in the 9th minute proved enough to see off DR Congo, who were fighting to stay in the tournament.

The results confirmed Morocco and Zambia as the top two teams in Group A, advancing to the knockout stages of the competition.
