Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has shared her thoughts on Nigeria’s intense semi-final win over South Africa at the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The nine-time African champions edged out defending champions South Africa 2-1 on Tuesday to book their place in the final of the tournament.

Ajibade gave Nigeria the lead from the penalty spot just before halftime.

South Africa drew level in the second half when Osinachi Ohale brought down Hildah Magaia in the box, allowing Linda Motlhalo to convert from the spot.

However, a stunning long-range strike from right-back Michelle Alozie sealed the win for the Super Falcons late in the match.

Speaking after the game, Ajibade admitted they knew the clash would be a tough one.

“We knew it would be a difficult game  every match in this tournament has been demanding,” she said. “South Africa are a strong side, and we’ve faced them many times across competitions like the Olympics qualifiers and previous WAFCONs.”

“But we prepared well, both physically and tactically. We were ready for whatever came our way. When we face adversity, that’s when you see the true spirit of the Super Falcons. It was tough, but we pulled through.”

The Super Falcons will now take on hosts Morocco in the final at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat on Saturday.
