Vincent Kompany has won his first official match as coach of Bayern Munich.

In the first round of the DFB-Pokal, the Belgian, who came from Burnley, saw his team triumph 0-4 away to second-tier SSV Ulm.

The 34-year-old veteran Thomas Müller played an important role in Bayern Munich’s victory with two goals in the first fifteen minutes.

In the second half, substitute Kingsley Coman made it 0-3 on an assist from French newcomer Michael Olise.

Top scorer Harry Kane and João Palhinha, another newcomer, also came on against Ulm.

Kane determined the final score with a header in injury time.

Kompany, successor to Thomas Tuchel, had no place for Leon Goretzka in his match selection. The midfielder is allowed to leave.

Earlier in the evening, Bundesliga clubs Hoffenheim, Mainz 05 and St. Pauli escaped elimination.

Hoffenheim won on penalties at fourth-tier Würzburger Kickers.

After ninety minutes, the score was 1-1 and after extra time 2-2.

Mainz and newly promoted St. Pauli only managed to make the difference at Wehen Wiesbaden (1-3) and Hallescher FC (2-3) respectively after extra time.
