Uruguayan footballer Juan Izquierdo has died after collapsing on the pitch last week.
According to the Albert Einstein Hospital, where the defender was being treated in intensive care, Izquierdo could not be saved after he fell to the ground due to cardiac arrest during last Thursday’s Copa Libertadores match against Brazil’s São Paulo.

In the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores, the South American Champions League, Izquierdo collapsed out of nowhere after 84 minutes of play.
The situation immediately became serious.
Doctors rushed to the scene, and the defender was taken away in an ambulance, unconscious.
He spent the last few days in intensive care on a ventilator, he died on Tuesday.
Brazilian football has declared a minute’s silence at Wednesday’s matches in honor of Izquierdo’s death.
