Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has offered to resign from his position following the Atlas Lions’ defeat to Senegal in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Sources close to the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) confirmed that Regragui tendered his resignation in the aftermath of the loss, taking responsibility for the team’s failure to secure the continental title.
However, the resignation is yet to be formally accepted, as the FRMF executive committee must approve any decision regarding the technical bench.
If the federation declines the resignation, Regragui will be expected to continue in his role as head coach, with preparations already underway for upcoming international engagements.
The development comes at a critical time for Moroccan football, with the FIFA World Cup scheduled to begin in four months, making stability in the national team’s technical setup a key priority for the federation.
Regragui, who guided Morocco to historic success at the last World Cup, remains one of the most influential figures in the country’s football structure, and a final decision from the FRMF is expected in the coming days.
