Nigeria’s U17 women’s team, the Flamingos, suffered their second consecutive defeat at the ongoing FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup after losing 1-0 to France on Wednesday.

A lone strike from Fathallah in the 81st minute was enough to hand the European side all three points and leave Nigeria’s qualification hopes hanging in the balance.

Despite showing more attacking intent than in their opening loss, the Flamingos struggled to convert their chances, with France proving more clinical and organized.

The defeat leaves Nigeria bottom of the group without a point from two matches, having earlier lost to Canada 4-1 in their first outing.

Coach Bankole Olowookere’s girls will now face Samoa in their final group game, where only a win can keep their slim hopes of progressing to the knockout stage alive.
