Nigeria’s Junior Female Yellow Greens secured their first victory at the 2025 ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia, defeating New Zealand by two runs on Monday.

This marked their delayed debut after a rain delay had postponed their match against Samoa on Saturday.

The game, which was initially set to start on time, eventually commenced more than two hours late with reduced overs due to the weather conditions in Sarawak. New Zealand won the toss and opted to field first, putting Nigeria’s batters to the test.

Captain Lucky Piety led by example, hitting Nigeria’s first-ever six in a Women’s World Cup. Her composed innings helped the Junior Yellow Greens finish with 65 runs for the loss of six wickets in 13 overs.

With the ball, Sarah Bakhita’s side maintained their focus, keeping their bowling attack steady. They successfully restricted New Zealand to 63 runs for six wickets, securing a thrilling two-run victory over the fourth-ranked team.
