SV Werder Bremen have confirmed the signing of Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface on loan from Bayer Leverkusen until the end of the 2025/26 season.

The 24-year-old forward, who joined Leverkusen in the summer of 2023 and played a key role in their Bundesliga triumph, will now continue his career at the Weserstadion. The deal, completed just before the close of the transfer window, does not include an option to buy.

“SV Werder Bremen has loaned Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface shortly before the end of the transfer window. A deal with many opportunities – but also a residual risk,” the club announced in an official statement.

Boniface, who has earned several caps for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, arrives in Bremen with a reputation as a powerful, energetic striker capable of leading the line and creating chances.

He scored crucial goals for Leverkusen in the Bundesliga and European competitions, but recurring injury setbacks limited his playing time last season.

Bremen sporting director Clemens Fritz expressed optimism about the move:

“Victor is a player with enormous qualities strong physically, technically gifted, and with a great mentality. We believe he can make a difference for us this season. Of course, there are risks considering his recent injuries, but we are confident this loan will benefit both sides.”

For Boniface, the switch represents a chance to gain more regular minutes and rebuild form in a competitive environment. With Bremen aiming to secure a strong Bundesliga campaign, his arrival is expected to boost their attacking options.

The striker could make his debut after the international break when Werder Bremen return to league action.
