Ipswich Town have confirmed the signing of Nigerian forward Chuba Akpom on a season-long loan from Dutch Eredivisie side Ajax Amsterdam.

The 29-year-old, who spent the 2024/25 season on loan at French Ligue 1 club LOSC Lille Metropole where he played in the UEFA Champions League brings a wealth of experience to Kieran McKenna’s side. His arrival is seen as a key addition in the club’s bid for promotion to the Premier League at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

Akpom has had a varied career, playing for clubs like Middlesbrough, Brighton, Hull City, and Nottingham Forest.

The loan deal includes a potential permanent transfer clause, with Ipswich obligated to pay Ajax £7m if they secure Premier League promotion.

Speaking about his move, Akpom expressed his excitement: “I was really excited when I heard of the interest, and I’m thrilled to join a club with such big ambitions. I watch a lot of football and have always thought Ipswich would suit my style, so this move makes perfect sense.”

Reflecting on his experiences, Akpom added, “I’ve had great experiences at Ajax and playing in the Champions League with Lille, and I feel all of these have helped me improve as a player and as a person.”

“I’m here to do everything I can to help the team, both in the dressing room and on the pitch, and I’ll bring a winning mentality to Ipswich,” he concluded.
