Nigerian defender Nelson Abiam has completed a move to Lithuanian top-flight champions, Zalgiris Vilnius.
The 22-year-old signed a three-year deal with the club, marking a significant step in his career after an impressive stint in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Abiam made headlines during the 2023/24 season by becoming the first defender to finish as top scorer for Doma United, netting five goals. He later joined Kano Pillars, his most recent club before making the switch to Europe.
Zalgiris Vilnius, currently third on the league table with 12 points from seven matches, are looking to strengthen their title challenge with Abiam’s addition. The club is managed by Vladimir Cheburin and hopes the Nigerian’s presence in defense will provide both stability and added threat on set pieces.
Abiam was also part of the home-based Super Eagles squad that secured qualification for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
