After a year hiatus from football, former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has returned to professional football with Fiorentina, an Italian side.

The goalkeeper had been out of the game for over a year after his contract with the Red Devils expired in June 2023.

That changed this summer, as he was in talks with several Serie A sides, including Genoa and Monza, before agreeing personal terms with Fiorentina.

The Spaniard underwent his medical on Friday in Florence and put pen to paper on the deal.

It is reported to be a one-year contract at €1m salary plus bonuses, with an option to extend for double the wages in 2025-26.

He will hold a presentation press conference at the Viola Park training centre on Monday August 12.
