Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro has congratulated Nuno Borge after his remarkable victory over Rafael Nadal in the Swedish Open.
Borges made history in Portuguese sport this Sunday by beating Rafael Nadal 2-0 in the final of the Bastad tournament in Sweden.
Immediately after the end of the match, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro congratulated the Portuguese tennis player in a post on social media.
“I watched the television broadcast of Nuno Borges’s impressive victory over the legendary Rafael Nadal, winning his first ATP Tennis Tournament. A source of pride and yet another demonstration of the quality of our sport. Congratulations, Nuno Borges!”, wrote the head of the national government.
This was the first ATP title for Nuno Borges, who becomes only the second Portuguese to win an ATP tournament, after João Sousa.
