Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi has been ruled out for up to two months after sustaining a hamstring injury during Nigeria’s third-place match at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations.

The Hull City centre-back picked up the injury in added time of the Super Eagles’ victory over Egypt on Sunday, forcing him to limp off before the final whistle. Subsequent medical scans have confirmed damage to his hamstring.

Ajayi is expected to be sidelined for approximately seven weeks, a development that represents a significant setback for Hull City as they continue their push for promotion in the Championship.

The 31-year-old was an ever-present figure for Nigeria throughout the AFCON tournament in Morocco, featuring in all of the Super Eagles’ matches and playing a key role in their successful campaign.

Hull City are expected to closely monitor Ajayi’s recovery as he begins rehabilitation, with the club hoping to have the experienced defender back in action before the end of the season.
