The football world was sent into a shocker late on Saturday evening as Ivorian football legend Sol Bamba passed on.
Recently appointed coach of Adanaspor in the Turkish D2, the 39-year-old rock suffered a malaise before the match between his team and Manisa on Friday, which was to be the 4th official match managed in his career as a coach.
Taken to the hospital in an emergency, he died on Saturday evening, his club announced.
The former Ivorian international suffered from cancer of the lymphatic system which had been detected in January 2021.
Born in Ivry-sur-Seine and trained at Paris Saint-Germain , with whom he only played one match.
Sol Bamba started his career in Scotland, with Dunfermline and Hibernian.
He then spent most of his career in the English Championship with Leicester, Leeds, Cardiff and Middlesbrough.
He also played in the Turkish Super Lig with Trabzonspor, Italian Serie A with Palermo.
He has 52 caps and scored 2 goals for the Elephant of Ivory Coast.
