Jannik Sinner has emerged as the winner of the Masters tournament in Cincinnati, the United States.

Sinner was too strong for American Frances Tiafoe in the final of the prestigious hardcourt tournament.

It became 7-6 (4) and 6-2 for the 23-year-old Italian, who struck on his fourth match point after more than an hour and a half.

It was already Sinner’s fifth title in a year in which he displaced Novak Djokovic from the leading position in the world rankings.

His highlight was winning the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam title of his career.

In addition to his titles at the Australian Open and in Cincinnati, Sinner was also the best at the Masters tournament in Miami.

He was also the best at the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam and at the grass tournament in Halle.

In the women’s event, Aryna Sabalenka won the Cincinnati tournament on Monday evening.

The Belarusian defeated American Jessica Pegula in the final in two sets: 6-3 and 7-5.

The 26-year-old Sabalenka, who was seeded third, had not won the tournament before.

In the semi-finals she had already defeated Poland’s Iga Swiatek, the world number one.

Sabalenka and Sinner will now prepare for the US Open.

The last Grand Slam tournament of the year starts next Monday.
