FIFA referees will wear body cameras for the first time at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, according to Pierluigi Collina, Chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee.

The tournament, scheduled from June 14 to July 13, will mark the debut of this technology, aimed at enhancing both fan engagement and referee performance.

Collina explained that the body cameras will provide viewers with a unique, first-person perspective of the action, offering a fresh viewing experience.

“We believe this is a great opportunity to offer fans a new visual experience — one from the referee’s point of view, an angle never seen before,” Collina said.

He added that the cameras would also serve as a valuable tool for referee training. “Being able to review exactly what the referee saw helps in post-match analysis and decision evaluation. It’s a dual-purpose innovation: improving broadcasting and aiding referee development,” he concluded.
