Brampton-born striker Promise David, has officially submitted his one-time FIFA nationality switch, moving from Nigeria—where he played at the youth level—to Canada.
David reportedly informed the Nigeria Football Federation last month of his decision to represent his birth country at the senior level.
“Canadian football raised me,” David told Kloke. “I feel like I owe it to Canada to perform for them. Playing for Nigeria was a great experience, but it was just an opportunity. I like what [Marsch] has done with the team. You can see the rapid progress. Being part of that history is something I don’t want to pass up.”
David is expected to be included in Jesse Marsch’s provisional squad for the upcoming CONCACAF Nations League finals next month.
