Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has reflected on the emotional moment she scored in the final of the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final, describing it as a bittersweet experience in her career.
The Nigerian international admitted that while finding the back of the net on such a grand stage was special, the pain of defeat to Olympique Lyonnais Féminin dampened the celebration.
“Scoring in the UEFA Women’s Champions League final was another emotional moment,” Oshoala recalled.
“It was special personally, but we lost the final, which made it bittersweet.
Still, having the opportunity to play on such a big stage helped me understand European football culture and grow professionally.”
Oshoala featured in the final during her time with FC Barcelona Femení, where she enjoyed a successful spell in Catalonia and became one of Africa’s most decorated female footballers.
Beyond her contributions on the pitch, the former African Women’s Player of the Year emphasized the broader significance of representing Barcelona at the highest level of women’s club football.
“Playing for Barcelona FC was a huge responsibility. It is one of the biggest stages in women’s football, with many young players looking up to you.
There was pressure, of course, but I also enjoyed every moment. It was an eye-opener for many African girls, showing them that reaching the highest level of women’s football is possible with hard work and a bit of luck,” she told Ghanasoccernets.
Oshoala’s reflections underline not only her personal growth in Europe but also her impact as a trailblazer for aspiring female footballers across Africa.
