Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s quest to secure a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title as the tournament kicks off this weekend in Morocco.
The team, led by coach Justin Madugu, is currently in Morocco finalising preparations for the continental showpiece, which begins on Saturday. The Falcons are determined to surpass their fourth-place finish at the last edition, also held in Morocco in 2022, and Oshoala believes the squad is ready to accomplish their “Mission X” target.
“Personally, it feels like every other major tournament, but this one is special for us as a team because we’re chasing that 10th title,” the Bay FC forward said. “For me, I missed the last edition, so I just want to enjoy myself, contribute to the team’s success, and help us achieve Mission X physically.”
The 30-year-old, who is yet to score for her NWSL club this season, added, “My expectations remain the same: give 100 per cent on the pitch, aim to win every game, and treat every match with equal importance. Of course, I love scoring goals — that’s what I’m looking forward to doing.”
