The hope of Nigeria’s Super Falcons reaching the quarter-final of the ongoing Olympic Games in Paris has finally crashed.

The Nigerian side suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat in the opening group game before losing to the World champion Spain by the same scoreline in the second game.

They faced Japan in the final group game on Wednesday in Nantes to get a favorable result, but it ended in a defeat.

The 2011 World Champion dominated the game and scored twice in 32 minutes via Hamano and Tanaka.

Jennifer Echeginni gave Falcons a lifeline in the 42nd minute but a sublime free kick from Kitagwa ended their hope.

All the effort of the 9-time to bounce back in the second half proved abortive as the game ended 3-1.
