FIFA has officially confirmed that Nigeria will participate in the African playoffs for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a statement released on its official website, the world football governing body outlined the details of the playoff structure.
It read: “To reach the FIFA Play-Off Tournament in March 2026, four African teams Nigeria, Cameroon, DR Congo, and Gabon will compete in a continental play-off during the next international window in November 2025.”
According to the draw, Nigeria will face Gabon in the opening fixture. Should the Super Eagles win, they will advance to play the winner between Cameroon and DR Congo for a chance to represent Africa in the intercontinental playoffs.
The eventual winner of the African mini-tournament will then face a team from South America, Oceania, or Asia for a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
