Daniel Amokachi, the head coach of Lobi Stars, has shared how Emmanuel Amuneke played a key role in his decision to stay on as the manager of the Makurdi-based club.

After the team’s inconsistent performance in the first half of the season, the former Besiktas player admitted he considered stepping down.

“There were rumors around Christmas suggesting that I was given an ultimatum by Lobi Stars management, but that’s not true. I wasn’t given any ultimatum,” Amokachi clarified.

“After our final game of the first round against Heartland, I was close to resigning as head coach of Lobi Stars. I wasn’t upset with the team, but with certain issues off the field.”

“Emmanuel Amuneke heard about it and called me at midnight. We spoke for almost an hour, and his words of encouragement gave me a fresh outlook,” he continued.

“That conversation is why I’m still here. He filled me with positivity about the league and the future, and I’m deeply grateful for that,” Amokachi added.

Both Amokachi and Amuneke were part of the Super Eagles team that triumphed at the 1994 African Cup of Nations in Tunisia and the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
